Mt. Pamitinan

Situated in the Sierra Madre ranges in Rodriguez (formerly Montalbon), Rizal. Sitio Wawa has become an ecotourism site that offers outdoor attractions such as caves, gorge, and limestone formations. A model for ecotourism, the local community has organised a system for handling visitors, including trained local guides.

It is considered to be part of Binacayan, Hapunang Banoi and Pamitinan trilogy, The hike (mostly) straightforward 1100 feet ascent that might feel steep to those who are not used to hiking. The first part of the trail is forested, passing through some attractions such as Balete tree and rock formations that leads to a Junction which separates Pamitinan and Hapunang Banoi.

The local guides told us some interesting stories about Pamitinan, they said that Anrdres Bonifacio together with the Katipuneros once held their meetings in that very same mountain. They also told us about the legend of a folk hero named Bernardo Carpio who have separated the two mountains by his brute force in an act of self-liberation, thus creating the gorge, and the river.

The trail that leads to Mt. Pamitinan is made up of 80 percent rocky portion where one will have to do rock climbing, scrambling and all sorts of maneuvering through a sharp and jagged edged limestone formation which is definitely a great challenge for beginners where it requires caution and concentration.

Upon reaching the summit one will be rewarded with a 360 degree view of Sierra Madre ranges, Wawa River that meanders between the landscape, the neighboring limestone formation of  Mt Hapunang Banoi and Binacayan, Mt Balabag from afar and even Mt Arayat can be seen from afar.

How to Get There:

1.) From Cubao, you can ride UV Express bound to Montalbon. Once in Montalbon you can flagged trikes to Brgy Wawa (jump off of Pamitinan)

2.) I joined an organized hiking event headed by Sir Jed Marcos (09424936007) together with the Akyat Tuklas Mountaineers.
